Former Macquarie Scorpions premiership-winning coach Adam Bettridge has landed a job in the Newcastle Knights junior system after stepping down as Scorpions coach at the end of last season.
Bettridge, who master-minded Macquarie's 24-6 upset win over hot favourites Western Suburbs in the 2017 Newcastle league decider after taking the side to consecutive grandfinals in 2015 and 2016, has been appointed assistant coach of the Knights Jersey Flegg Under 20's side for next season under new head coach Tony Gleeson.
But the Knights are still to finalise their full coaching roster after Ian Bourke, who was to take the NSW Cup reins on a part-time basis from Rory Kostjasyn, has reluctantly been forced to pull out of the job.

After being in the system for several years working under the likes of Rip Taylor and Kostjasyn, an emotional Bourke told the Knights on Friday he was relinquishing the position due to work and family issues.
"I'm shattered mate,"he said. "Telling the boys in there on Friday was really tough. I've loved every minute of it, I love the club and everyone in there. But I have to put my family first."
