HUNTER track and field athletes starred at the NSW All Schools Athletics Championships in Sydney last week, taking out a string of events across the four-day meet.

Sprinter Torrie Lewis continued her impressive form in the girls 14 years 100m and 200m, winning gold in both events and setting a new record in the 200m.
Lewis battled a strong headwind in the 100m final, but still clocked the quickest time of 12.07. With a tailwind, she likely would have broke the All Schools record of 11.98. The St Marys Gateshead student's time was also the best of any age-group.
In the 200m final, Lewis finished first in a time 24.01, which set a new record and a time that her coach Gerrard Keating said would have ranked her among the top-12 women in the country.
Belmont High School's Ashlyn Blackstock broke the NSW All Schools record to win the girls 15 years discuss and claimed the shot put too.
Montana Monk of Bishop Tyrrell Anglican College won the girls 15 years 400m final in a personal best time of 55.94. She also set a PB when she won the 15 years 800m in a time of 2.09.30
Leroy Reid of St Francis Xavier's College won the boys 17 years 200m final in a personal best time of 21.80.
He also finished second in the 100m with a time of 11.18.
Grace Hewitt finished second in the girls 16 years 200m final with a time of 24.59.
The Hunter Valley Grammar student also came second in the 16 years 100m final ahead of Warners Bay High's Georgia Munro.
Jai Callaghan of Hunter Sports High won the boys 12 years long jump and came second in the 400m. Merewether High's Jessica Richardson won the girls 16 years shot put and came second in the javelin. Newcastle High's Samuel Taylor won the boys 19 years long jump and came second in shot put.
Maitland High's Mitchell Lightfoot won the boys 16 years 100m final in 11.41 and the 110 metre hurdles.
Tomaree High's Shari Hurdman won the girls 12 years 100m. Toronto High's Luke Young won the boys 19 years 1500m. Liam Fairweather of St Marys Maitland came second in the boys 17 years long jump.
There were other successful results from Hunter athletes but only the top two from each event qualified for the School Sport Australia Track and Field Championships later this year.
Big week of orienteering
Four orienteers from the Hunter are competing in the Oceania Championships in Wagga and Beechworth across last and this weekend. They will also compete in the Australian School Championships this week in Wagga.
Mikayla Enderby, 15, and Mikayla Enderby, 12, of Warners Bay High Sschool; Alvin Craig, 15, of Merewether High; and Oskar Mella, 15, of Dungog High are in the NSW schools team.
