Water Polo Australia named the "born 2002" squad last week alongside the announcement of veteran youth mentor Phillip Bower as Australian coach.

The Hunter's Alexie Lambert, Jolie Marsden and Dayna Garside were all named in the 32-player squad, which was selected on previous performances and in consultation with state institute coaches.

Tamworth's Mikayla Gross, who has played for the Hunter Hurricanes, was also picked in the squad.

The girls will spend the next twelve months working with Bower to develop ahead of the 2020 tournament. .

"There are some outstanding athletes available for the 2002 national women's squad and it is now up to me to identify the best 13 players in the country and form them into a competitive team," Bower said.

There will be several training camps for the squad in preparation for the FINA World Women's Youth Water Polo Championships to be contested in September 2020 in Netanya, Israel.

"With the assistance of coaches from our state institutes, academies and clubs, we can all work together to give the players the opportunity to take on the challenge of the World Championships," Bower said.

Lambert is currently playing with the University of Sydney, Garside with the University of New South Wales and Marsden with the Hunter Hurricanes.

Garside attends Lambton High School and Marsden attends Warners Bay High.
