The physios and OT staff work collaboratively with the clinical care team to ensure residents have access to appropriate pain management, are supported to move safely, have access to appropriate assistive equipment and can participate in suitable individual or group exercise programs.
It means residents are assessed promptly when they move in, when returning from hospital or when their health changes quickly, for example, when they have a fall.
The physiotherapists and occupational therapists also support the ongoing training needs of Summitcare staff, in particular manual handling training which is critical for ensuring staff have the skills to assist older adults to move safely.
Summitcare Wallsend offers podiatry, pet therapy, inter generational groups and local community involvement as part of its holistic model of care.
The holistic model focuses on reablement and preventative programs and feature a high level of clinical care and increased nurse management, including 24/7 RN coverage.
