A man has been convicted and fined $10,000 for installing two split air conditioner systems without any qualifications.

An ex parte plea hearing was held at the Ballarat Magistrates Court on Thursday for Justin Waldie.
Energy Safe Victoria informant and compliance officer Christopher Linton said Waldie installed the systems in two different addresses in October 2018.
He said Waldie was not a qualified or registered electrician or plumber, but carried out the installations.
The prosecutor said the installation of the split air conditioner systems required a qualified electrician and plumber because of the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
He said Waldie had two similar prior offences of installing split air conditioner systems without being licensed or registered.
Magistrate Letizia Torres convicted and fined Waldie $10,000 and ordered him to pay $2183.76 in costs.
She said he had the opportunity to attend the hearing but he chose not to and agreed to hear the case with him absent.
The court was told Waldie had not attended court on previous occasions.
The prosecution withdrew one charge, while the case proceeded on four charges including carrying out work without a licence.
