Firefighters from Lambton, Mayfield West, Carrington and Wallsend responded to a house fire at Fern Bay in the early hours of Saturday morning. On arrival, crews found a transportable home on fire. Senior firefighter Ben Cleary had to negotiate the tight road network within the complex to access the fire. He then worked rapidly in difficult and dark conditions to secure a water supply for the fire attack crews from Lambton and Mayfield West. This swift action allowed crews to quickly extinguish the fire and protect buildings on either side of the structure and prevent further property losses. Paramedics assessed several residents at the scene for smoke inhalation.
Also on Saturday, crews from Tingira Heights, Cardiff and Charlestown were called to a house fire in Warners Bay. Firefighters found a fire in the laundry at the rear of a three-level house. Crews extinguished the blaze, containing it to the laundry.
Charlestown firefighters helped paramedics carry an injured person from bush at Glenrock reserve on Sunday. The injured person had fallen from a cliff face in the reserve.
Fire crews from Carrington were called to a report of asbestos on the roadside at Mayfield East on Wednesday. Specialist firefighters from the Hazardous Materials response section put the asbestos in recovery bins.
