The transport department on Tuesday released the findings of its Review of Road Safety: Cyclist interaction within the mixed running alignment, Newcastle Light Rail.

The safety review was commissioned after the death of 51-year-old father of three Danny Egan, who died after suffering a fall from his bike on the mixed-running section of the line in July.

The review made eight recommendations to improve cyclists safety along the line.

Transport Minister Andrew Constance says the NSW government will "adopt all eight recommendations".

The chief recommendation involves prohibiting cyclists from riding in the 340-metre mixed-running section, which will be implemented from Wednesday after permanent signage is installed on Tuesday night.

Another recommendation calls for Transport for NSW to work with City of Newcastle to provide suitable alternative paths for cyclists "as soon as possible".

"We extend our sincere condolences to Danny's wife and to his three children," Mr Constance said

"While NSW Police are investigating the circumstances around the incident and will provide a report to the Coroner, Transport for NSW has also conducted a review to see what can be done to improve safety."
