Police said a man and woman began arguing at Narara train station about 9.50pm on Saturday night. It is alleged the man, 19, began choking the woman as the off-duty officer disembarked from a train.
The officer attempted to intervene before the man allegedly resisted arrest and attacked the Brisbane Water senior constable.
Officers were called to the scene by a witness and managed to restrain the man, who was taken to Gosford police station and charged with several offences including assault police and breach of bail.
The 19-year-old was refused bail to face court on Monday.
