Four fire crews rushed to Peppertree Circuit shortly after 8.30pm following reports of the fire.
Crews initially had trouble gaining access to the house, owing to the intense heat, and were forced to battle the blaze from outside before firefighters were able make their way into the building.
Police said the body of a man was found inside.
A woman and a 13-year-old teenage boy sustained minor injuries and were taken to John Hunter Base Hospital as a precaution.
Officers from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District established a crime scene and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the blaze.
A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
