FORMER Newcastle Knight Jeremy Smith has pleaded not guilty to domestic violence offences relating to his wife Jody Smith, including an allegation that he punched through a wall at the couple's Hamilton home.

Jeremy Smith, 39, was represented by solicitor James Janke when he appeared in Newcastle Local Court on Thursday charged with intimidation and destroy or damage property.
He pleaded not guilty to both charges and applied to vary an apprehended domestic violence order taken out by police after the alleged incident on October 11.
Smith, who played 22 tests for New Zealand and 13 years in the NRL for the Melbourne Storm, St George Illawarra Dragons, Cronulla Sharks and then the Knights, will face a hearing when the matter returns to court in January.
The apprehended violence order remains in place until then and states that Smith must not come within 100 metres of his wife's home.
Smith retired from the NRL in 2016 and has since been playing for South Newcastle in the Newcastle Rugby League competition.
