The former Miss Universe Australia, who grew up in Newcastle, was the ambassador for this year's Melbourne Cup carnival.
"Everywhere you look there is perfectly manicured gardens and roses that are planned to bloom a couple of days, to the day, just in time for the carnival," she said. "It is a 158 year old social and cultural tradition.
"The atmosphere, the combination of world class racing, food and wine, entertainment and fashion is so incredible."
Ms Martin, who was dressed by Myer for the race, rubbed shoulders with celebrities and fashionistas in the famous Birdcage marquee on Tuesday.
"I've always been a big fan of the Melbourne Cup," she said. "My dad used to pull me out of school early on Cup day. He'd rock up with a little sweep card and the paper, and we always bonded over that... It has been an honour to get to know more about the racing world and what goes into this event."
