Stockton resident Lisa McLean, who arranged the visit, said the royal couple wanted to lend their support to save the beach from erosion oblivion.
Topics: "We feel a bit sorry for Harry and Megs lately, with the tabloids going after them. Maybe they could harness the power of the tabloids to get some money for Stockton?"
Lisa: "Well, they know the Queen, don't they? She's technically the head of all our governments."
Topics: "Yeah, we should appeal to the Queen. Appealing to our own government hasn't done the trick so far."
Lisa: "People are really disheartened now in Stockton. That's part of the reason why I decided to do this [invite Meghan and Harry here] - to get a bit more attention and let people know we haven't forgotten."
Topics: "How's the beach going? Still cactus?"
Lisa: "The other day when I went for the photo, I checked out the main beach. It was basically weeds and a slither of sand. I had to take the royals around to the small dog beach on the harbour side. That was a bit embarrassing. But Meghan and Harry were really good. They waited in line for the photo. They didn't expect VIP treatment."
Topics: "They waited like commoners? That's great."
Topics: "Is there still hope for Stockton beach? Guess that's what Harry and Megs are for - to keep that hope alive?"
Lisa: "That's exactly right. They've been busy. Last week I took them to Wickham to that silly pole in the middle of the road."
Topics: "We heard they went to the Wickham pole on the way back from the South Pole."
Lisa: "Ah yes, they do know Santa [as the photo shows]. They first met in a VIP tent at Glastonbury [a music festival in the UK]. Meghan and Harry could be Stockton's ambassadors. They could live in Newcastle at the old post office. We'll renovate it. That would be a good spot for them to live."
Topics: "It'd be perfect. Very regal. Once the rats are removed."
Lisa: "Exactly, and the mattresses and whatever."
Topics: "And the needles. But we don't want to judge Harry and Megs, we don't know what they're into."
Lisa: "Exactly. They might want to live at the vineyards."
Topics: "They could live in a housing commission home. They shouldn't be above that."
Lisa: "Well, it is public housing. They own that, too, don't they? They should come to live in Newcastle, especially with the whole Prince Andrew thing going on. They'd want to get away from that."
Topics: "We'll give them trackside tickets to Supercars."
Lisa: "Yes, and we'll make them Newcastle Knights life members. They won't really get hassled in Newcastle. After a while people will be like 'yeah, whatever'."
Topics: "Let's hope Stockton gets a big chunk of money before Christmas to fix the beach. We don't mind whether the money comes from the government or the Queen."
Bald Tyre
We wrote last week about a socket wrench that went through the tyre of a bloke known as Andy the Geezer.
Andy was driving his van between Scone and Murrurundi when the wrench struck.
Eagle-eyed Graham Fox, of Clarence Town, said the wrench may well have saved Andy the Geezer from a fine.
"Not much tread to see in the photo," Graham said, of the tyre.
Forgotten Ticket
A Newcastle man has claimed his $200,000 Lucky Lotteries prize after checking his ticket five months after the draw. The ticket was in his wallet the entire time.
The man, who bought the ticket at Lambton Nextra, said he put it in his wallet and "completely forgot about it".
"My wife called me an idiot. She made me check the whole house to see if we had any other tickets that needed to be checked," he said.
"It's funny because the other month I was watching TV with my wife and they were talking about a Powerball winner who hadn't claimed their prize and we were just talking about how silly they were to not check their ticket."
Happy Birthday
It's been 50 years since the Barrington Tops was protected as a national park.
The park has some of the wildest, most pure and unpolluted rivers in Oz. It also includes part of a world heritage site.
What a place to have in our own backyard.
