Lake Macquarie City Council manager property and business development David Antcliff said expressions of interest were open to join the Awaba House Revitalisation Community Reference Group.

"We are seeking community representatives with skills and experience in relevant areas such as design, construction, hospitality or tourism, and willingness to contribute ideas and explore future opportunities for this site," Mr Antcliff said.

"Community input into the way forward for the site is crucial in determining the best outcomes for the City. Being part of the Reference Group is a great opportunity to have input into a landmark plan that will pave the way for our community and visitors into the future."

The Newcastle Herald reported the property was left a shell after the fire in August. Fire and Rescue NSW said at the time the blaze was not being treated as suspicious.
