Four utes were involved in the crash at turn one, which happened on the first lap of the race.
The drivers involved were Craig Thompson (72), Ben Walsh (8), Ryal Harris (1) and Elliot Barbour (87).
All four drivers emerged form their vehicles shortly after the incident and appear to be OK.
Thompson, who began the race in pole position, appeared to lock up coming through the first turn and hit the tyre barrier.
The utes behind were caught out and had nowhere to go.
Ryal Harris, who bounced off Thompson and continued driving up Watt Street until he had to pull up, said the crash was part and parcel of racing.
"Street circuits are pretty brutal," he said.
"I was just trying to stay out of trouble on that one, and I had a Mitsubishi big, old, dirty Triton bounce back out in front me with nowhere to go."
The four utes and resulting damage were cleared from the track within about five minutes and the race restarted.
