Lambton, Mayfield West, Wallsend and Cardiff were called to a house fire in Jesmond late on Sunday. Arriving crews found a reportedly unoccupied house well alight. Senior Firefighter Mark Thompson, from Lambton fire station, said the team worked quickly to knock down the fire and prevent it from affecting neighbouring properties. This task was made more difficult by water supply issues in the street. Crews from Mayfield West helped by relay pumping from a hydrant in the next street, about 200 metres away. The house was searched and the all-clear given.
