A MAN has been charged with murder after an alleged fatal stabbing at Mayfield on Boxing Day.

Newcastle police were called to the scene on Silsoe Street, near the intersection of Myola Street, around 11.30pm, where they found a 50 year-old man critically injured with a knife wound to to his neck.
NSW Ambulance paramedics rushed to the scene to treat the man before he was taken to John Hunter Hospital.
Despite efforts to resuscitate him, he was pronounced dead on arrival.
A crime scene was established on Myola Road, which is being examined by specialist forensic officers.
A 36-year old man was arrested nearby and taken to Waratah Police Station.
Police confirmed on Friday afternoon they had charged the man with murder.
He was refused bail to face Newcastle Local Court on Saturday.
