The 32-year-old former Hunter resident is now nine minutes and six seconds behind frontrunner Ricky Brabec approaching Friday's sixth stage.
Price has a general time of 19 hours, 16 minutes and 25 seconds (19:16.25) following the first five stages.
He finished Thursday's journey from Al-`Ula and Ha'il in three hours, 57 minutes and 33 seconds, which was one minute and 12 seconds ahead of nearest rival Pablo Quintanilla.
"It's been a good stage, it's actually the first time I've ridden with a big group, so it was quite enjoyable, but at the end of the day, we are competitive and need to stay in front of them," Price posted on social media.
