These lifeguards took a bit of time out to see the women's T20 World Cup trophy at Bar Beach on Saturday as part of a country-wide tour ahead of next month's cricket tournament.
Former national captain and now Cricket Australia community general manager Belinda Clark, who grew up at Hamilton South and first trained with City at Empire Park, said it was important for fans to "interact" with the main prize to help raise "awareness" about hosting the upcoming tournament.
Clark also still "keeps in touch" with "how the game is going across the region" and was supportive of this season's inaugural Newcastle District Cricket Association women's T20 league.
"It didn't happen by chance. It takes a lot of hard work and effort to get to that point, bit by bit to see the concept come to life," she said.
"It was great to see young girls having the chance to play the sport like that close to home in Newcastle."
Australia open the women's T20 World Cup against India at Sydney Showground on February 21.
