Crews from Toronto, Wangi, Teralba and Holmesville responded to a fire at a Kilaben Bay property on Sunday.
The first crews on the scene found a home's garage well alight and neighbouring properties under threat. Firefighters adopted a defensive strategy and contained the fire to the garage. Residents of the adjoining house were evacuated while crews worked to extinguish the fire.
On Tuesday, Lambton's crew responded to a motor vehicle accident where a car had crashed into a house. Firefighters performed first aid on a female resident before the ambulance arrived. The crew then used the technical rescue vehicle and specialist tools to shore up the building to prevent any further collapse.
Fire and Rescue's diverse range of call outs was once again on display on Wednesday when firefighters from Salamander Bay responded to a diesel spill at Soldiers Point boat ramp. The specialist hazardous materials response crew from Newcastle also attended. Using their boat, the Hazmat team deployed booms on the water to contain the spill and prevent it from causing any further damage to the marine environment.
The festive season may be over for another year, but there are still plenty of Christmas lights on display. In some cases these lights would have been operating for a couple of months. If you plan to leave your lights up it's a good idea to check all power boards, electrical plugs and leads for damage. Remove or replace them if needed.
