Mackay has equal TAB favourite for the Futurity, Aston Maeve ($6), and Zipping Veyron ($8), which sits on the second line of betting.

Aston Maeve, unbeaten in three career starts, all at Maitland, was a $1.95 top pick for heat one from box three. Zippin Veyron will have to overcome box five to progress through heat two, where she was a $2.40 favourite. She has won six of her past seven starts. Mackay also has outsider Smokin Cindy ($15) from box three in heat three of the Futurity.

The premier Hunter trainer has two runners in the Derby heats and both are genuine contenders.

New addition Hard Style Rico was the fastest heat runner in the group 1 Silver Chief Classic at The Meadows two weeks ago and won four in a row before sixth in the final taken out by Derby favourite Simon Told Helen.

Hard Style Rico had his first run at Wentworth Park last Saturday night in a trial and clocked 29.84 seconds for the 520m.

"Hard Style Rico's owner called me to inquire if I had room for his dog because he wanted to send him to Sydney,'' Mackay told thedogs.com.au. "I told him I had no space but when he said the dog had won in 24.77 over 450m at Ballarat, I said 'hang on a minute, I just remembered I do have a spare kennel.'

"I was pleased with his trial last Saturday because on the early pace he has shown in Victoria, he can improve on that 5.48 first split.''

Hard Style Rico, $8 for the final, was a $2.80 hope from box three in heat two. Mackay also has Aston Sapporo ($2.60) in box three of heat four. He was $12 for the title.

Meanwhile, the record streak of Mackay-trained Turbo Thomas ended at 17 when he was fourth after a slow start and check at Wentworth Park on Wednesday night.

Turbo Thomas broke the national record for consecutive victories on TAB tracks last Friday when he won over 400m at The Gardens. That victory took him past the record of 16 held by champion Fernando Bale and Miss Elly Mint, which was trained in the Hunter by Robert Smith.
