At about 4.15am, emergency services responded to reports of a single car accident on the New England Highway, about 1 kilometre north of Hebden Road.
Two NSW Ambulance crews arrived at the scene to find the man with lacerations to his head and a broken leg.
Paramedics transported the patient by road to John Hunter Hospital.
The New England Highway was closed to motorists for a few hours and traffic diverted through Putty Road, Golden Highway and Denman Road.
