Federal education minister Dan Tehan on Friday joined NSW counterpart Sarah Mitchell on NSW's mid-north coast to inspect the reconstruction efforts at Bobin Public School.
Destroyed by fire in early November, the school is due to be open on the first day of term one this year.
"We know schools are at the heart of communities, and will play an important role in the recovery from these fires," Ms Mitchell said in a statement.
"It's crucial for students to be reconnected with friends, share stories and return to their school routine after what has been a traumatic time."
Ms Mitchell later on Friday told reporters the state government would provide about $20 million to repair damage to school infrastructure, including play equipment and shade sails.
The funding would also cover cleaning expenses for ash contamination and fire retardant.
The $20 million would come from the NSW government's $1 billion funding commitment earlier this month to rebuild fire-ravaged communities.
"It was definitely a priority for us as a state government to make sure we did everything that we could to get this school ... back up and running for day one, term one," Ms Mitchell said.
She said all 178 schools impacted by fire were inspected on Friday, excluding one in the Snowy Valleys where access remains prohibited.
Wytaliba Public School in northern NSW was also destroyed by fire and is expected to be rebuilt by the first day of term one.
