Through her development program Aspire and in conjunction with Newcastle Netball Association, the Giants defender will run an 11s development day at National Park Netball Courts on February 29.
While not personally affected by the bushfires, Poolman saw first-hand the devastation caused on the Mid North Coast last year after fires ravaged parts of the Manning and Great Lakes areas.
"We go camping past Taree every year and to drive up that way and to actually see it with your own eyes," Poolman said.
"What was incredible was there were kilometres and kilometres of bush where fire had gone through and there's one little house on the top surrounded by bush still there, which just highlights how amazing our firefighters are."
Netball Australia have initiated the Netball Bushfire Relief to raise funds for those affected by the nation's bushfire crisis. At the centrepiece is a charity match between the Australian Diamonds and a Super Netball All Star team to be played at Qudos Bank Arena on March 1.
Poolman jumped at the chance when asked if she would also organise a charity clinic through Aspire.
"Netball Australia are aware of a couple of players like myself who have programs that run in the netball community and they reached out to us to see if we wanted to be involved further than just as a collective players Suncorp group," Poolman said.
"They pitched the possibility of me running a clinic with all donations going to the same fund and from the start I was on board. My first thought was how can we collectively come together as a region and as a sport of netball.
"We came up with an 11s development day. There's so much in terms of rep netball doing carnivals between 12 and 15 and some associations have quite a large squad of 11s, so it's an opportunity to develop athletes that are potentially their future stars."
Poolman rang 21 presidents from netball associations across the Hunter and Central Coast regions.
"I wanted the message to come across that as a region we can come together and be part of this as a sport but we can also develop our 11s athletes and coaches and umpires all in the one day," she said. "The response has been amazing. Everyone is on board. The fact that 21 presidents had no hesitation in saying yes they wanted to be involved is really special."
The development day costs $15 with proceeds going to Red Cross and to helping netballers affected by the bushfires through Netball Australia's Confident Girls Foundation Bushfire Appeal.
"Netball clubs aren't going to have any netballs, uniforms and plenty of other things because they would have all been wiped out," Poolman said.
The development day will consist of two parts - a morning training session then a round robin competition.
