Copus-Brown is having a break-out season and has been one of the Jets' most consistent performers but picked up her fourth yellow card in Newcastle's 2-0 loss to unbeaten leaders Melbourne City on Saturday.

It is blow for the hosts who are desperate for victory to keep alive their slim hopes of a top-four finish. Striker Nicki Flannery is also in doubt with an ankle injury.

Mathematically, Newcastle can still finish fourth but it will requite winning all four remaining matches and relying on other results to go in their favour.

The Jets are seventh with four points, 10 outside the top four. Their only win of 2019-20 came as a 2-1 victory over Perth in a dominant fourth-round performance.

Glory are winless with two points in eighth position but, like the Jets, have been close on the scoresheet in most of their matches.

While Perth cannot reach the top four, a win tomorrow night will propel them past their opponents and Newcastle co-captain Clare Wheeler was expecting a tight tussle.

"When you look at the bottom three at the moment - Adelaide, Perth and us - we haven't had massive scorelines against any of the top four," Wheeler said.

"It's been the top four that have had massive scorelines against themselves. Every game, the bottom three know they need to win, so it's that desperation that they're going to bring. We're aware of that and we're going to have to bring it moreso."

The Jets found themselves in a similar predicament last campaign but finished with plenty of momentum, winning three out of their final four outings to end the season within three points of the top four.

They return to McDonald Jones Stadium for the first time since December 15 after playing their past three games on the road.

"It's always good to play at home in front of your home crowd ... but it'll definitely be a tough game for us as we really need a win to keep our hopes alive and also to get some confidence back up heading towards the end of the season," Wheeler said.

"We were in a similar position last year as well. We've been through this position before and it's nothing new to us, so we've just got to attack it the same way and get the wins that we need."

Defensive lapses and not capitalising on their chances in front of goal cost Newcastle against City in Melbourne last weekend. Both goals came early in each half.

"We know we need to work harder; we know we need to keep focus," Wheeler said.

"Losing is never good, especially when you only lose by one or two goals every week. I guess there are some positives in there but we need to put the ball in the back of the net, that's how you win, and we need to make sure we do our best in front of goal to keep the ball out ... and not wait for a goal to be scored before we switch on."

The match tomorrow night kicks off at 7.30pm.
