Vehicles tend to bustle through the highway, jostling for position, seeking space to surge ahead on their way into town. If vehicles had elbows, they'd be well and truly out on the northbound lanes through Charlestown.
Those heading south through that strip of road don't seem quite so fevered. Many heading south are heading home, rather than to work, so their driving is mellower.
Anyhow, take a look at this photo. It's a shot of the Pacific Highway in 1954. Different world, hey?
We're glad to see the road has improved in the past 66 years.
The image is part of a photographic exhibition, titled Then and Now, at SEEN@Swansea - an art space next to Swansea Library.
The exhibition provides a snapshot of Lake Macquarie over the past 100 years, displaying before and after images of well-known spots.
Lake Macquarie City Council's Jessica Dowdell said the exhibition was a chance for people to celebrate the area's history.
"The photos within the exhibition help visitors reflect on our rich past and look forward to a future of possibilities," Ms Dowdell said.
The exhibition is open daily from 10am to 3pm until March 29. A gold coin donation will get you in.
It's So Hot
Glen Fredericks is turning up the heat on the "it's so hot" sayings we offered yesterday.
It's so hot ... I've learned how to steer a car with only two fingers.
It's so hot ... the best parking spot is determined by shade not distance.
It's so hot ... trees are whistling for dogs.
It's so hot ... I worry my ceiling fan is spinning so fast it will fly off and kill me.
Police song
The NSW Police force has a songwriter within its ranks.
Check out this verse, which the boys in blue published on their Facebook page.
We suspect it is to be sung to the tune of Smash Mouth's song All Star, made famous by the movie Shrek.
Well the fines start coming and they don't stop coming,
Breaking the rules so my licence went running,
Didn't make sense not to speed for fun,
My car's now gone and I feel so dumb,
So much to do, so much to see,
Didn't think I'd get caught on the back streets,
You'll never know when the sirens go,
Lights shine with a red and blue glow.
Viral Irony
Several news outlets have been carrying stories about "misinformation" being spread about the coronavirus.
Sounds like a game of Chinese whispers.
