Blending folk, jazz and Latin influences with her Indian and French background, Victoire produced a truly unique sound.

It delivered Victoire 1233 ABC Music Awards for Fuzzy's Song in 2002 and for her five-track EP Off My Skin in 2005.

The EP's best known track, Last Man Standing, was written about asylum seeker, Mohammed Sagar, who was aboard a boat intercepted by HMAS Adelaide in 2001, and detained on Nauru and Manus Island until 2006.

For the past decade Victoire has strayed away from original music to focus on work and exploring musical theatre and cabaret-style performances.

However, last week she ended that sabbatical with the release of her new single Precious Things To Me, which will be followed by her debut full-length album.

The album was co-produced by Robbie Long at Funky Lizard Studios in Newcastle, and includes re-arrangements of old favourites and new songs inspired by Victoire's travels doing humanitarian work.

"[It was] written in the aftermath of prolonged illness where even simple every day moments with loved ones seem so precious, against a backdrop of rising uncertainty about our collective future," Victoire says.

Anousha Victoire will launch Precious Things To Me at the Hamilton Station Hotel on February 16.
