Piece of history
One of Maitland's "most celebrated homes" is on the market.
Azuma, at 47 Regent Street, is being sold through expressions of interest by Cain Beckett, of Jurd's Real Estate.
The beautiful four-bedroom, three-bathroom residence is positioned on 1093 square metres of land. It was built in 1892 and was reportedly a wedding gift from the prominent Cohen family to their daughter.
The home has had few owners since and Mr Beckett said it was "one of the finest historic homes to come to market this year" in Maitland.
A well-preserved example of fine Victorian architecture, the home has been lovingly restored and features include a grand entrance hall, polished wide cowrie pine floorboards, a French-polished cedar staircase, formal dining room, billiard room, stone fireplaces, a timber kitchen with Carrara marble benchtops, covered outdoor entertaining, an in-ground lap pool and rural views.
Inspections are by appointment and Mr Beckett said they were looking for interest in the high $1 million range.
The striking property is on the market for the first time in around 30 years.
"In terms of condition and in terms of original condition, I don't know that there's many in a better condition than this," Mr Beckett said.
"It has been fully restored right through and the extension is very sympathetic to the original character."

Stockton Lodge a unique opportunity
An ultra modern guest house in Stockton presents an outstanding lifestyle opportunity for owner occupiers, according to John Kerr.
The Dalton Partners agent is marketing Stockton Lodge at 42 Mitchell Street with a guide of $2.5 million.
It has nine guest rooms with private ensuites, a top-floor manager's residence and a commercial-sized kitchen that leads to a rooftop alfresco terrace.
The property is being used as short-term accommodation with a minimum three-month stay, but Mr Kerr said it could easily be utilised as a hotel or Airbnb, subject to council approval.
There is a ground-level coffee shop, undercover car parks and an internal lift. The property is positioned in Stockton's main street, close to shops and the Stockton ferry wharf.
"It is ideal for an investor or for someone looking for a lifestyle opportunity, to be able to run their own business in a nice village atmosphere," Mr Kerr said.
After six years with Dalton Partners, Mr Kerr has joined agent Lisa Macklin as a partner at the New Lambton office.
