Throughout the campaign, the Newcastle Herald has highlighted the work of those going above and beyond in many walks of life.
And in 2020, were again looking for our next crop of Hunter Heroes.
While the focus will still be on the great deeds of Hunter residents, this year's campaign will feature a new twist - the campaign will highlight those working to make the natural world around us better.
This year we'll recognise those making everyday changes, big and small, to help our environment, while inspiring others to do the same.
Maybe you know someone rescuing and protecting endangered species.
Perhaps your neighbour has been instrumental in creating a community garden that has also provided a support network for your street.
Nominees could be operating in a paid position, a voluntary role or working on an unofficial endeavour.
Hunter Water, the founding supporter of the Hunter Heroes series, said it was pleased to be back on board and to put a spotlight on the cause of environmental sustainability.
"Hunter Water is proud to support Hunter Heroes, which recognises the dedication and contribution of members of our community who champion conservation and sustainability causes," a Hunter Water spokesperson said.
"We all have a role to play in protecting our environment and ensuring a sustainable future for the next generation.
"This year we want to celebrate those who are leading in this area and we encourage you to put forward your nominations."
Newcastle Herald editor Heath Harrison thanked Hunter Water for their support of the Herald's series which celebrated the achievements of people who, without fuss or fanfare, were changing their communities for the better.
He said the Herald was looking forward to telling the stories of the region's environmental champions and called for the community to start nominating.
"We know we live in region renowned for its natural beauty. This year, Hunter Heroes is all about those people who are taking extra special care of this beautiful little corner of the globe," he said.
"Someone whose commitment to the environment and sustainability has made a positive difference. Someone saving water, saving energy, saving animals or saving the planet. Someone cleaning beaches, planting trees or recycling waste. It could be an individual, but it could also be a group or organisation. It could be your neighbour. It could be you."
At the end of the year, the public will choose the 2020 finalists and a judging panel will crown the overall Hunter Hero.
