But police investigating the stabbing murder of 27-year-old Jason Adams say while there is "some loose association" between Mr Adams and the other occupants of the house, they are not treating his death as a "classic domestic-related incident".
Mr Adams is believed to have been at the house in Payton Street, Raymond Terrace early on Saturday morning when a dispute started and spilled out onto the street.
Neighbours have described being woken about 5.30am to the sound of screaming.
It's believed Mr Adams was chased and stabbed, with the attack spilling into a neighbouring front yard, before he collapsed bleeding from multiple stab wounds on the road at the intersection of Payton Street and Watt Street.
A member of the public found Mr Adams' body lying on the road about 5.45am and called triple-zero.
Neighbours have described seeing police and paramedics working to revive Mr Adams, but he died at the scene.
The NSW Homicide Squad were called in and detectives worked well into the early hours of Sunday morning, investigating what occurred inside and out of the house before Mr Adams was killed.
Police had set up a crime scene in tiny Payton Street, effectively locking residents inside their homes on Saturday, as they scoured a vacant block for any evidence and searched for the murder weapon.
Police said on Sunday that a search for the weapon was "still ongoing".
And while they were yet to charge anyone, police were "actively looking for those involved".
