He has had, as he calls it, "the best seat in the house" at some of the NRL's most memorable moments as national broadcaster's sideline eye, metres from the most unlikely of tries, the hardest hits, and one memorable moment where - in the words of then Knights coach Warren 'The Wok' Ryan - "Dr Hamilton" raised Adam Muir from the dead live on air.
Newcastle Herald sport: All the latest news, results and analysis from the Newcastle Knights
Baz and the rest of the Newcastle Herald team are working from home as the impact of coronavirus continues to be felt around the Hunter. In the interest of everyone's continued good health, Toohey has taken his new podcast social distancing; opening up his coveted contacts list and calling up old mates from a safe distance to reminisce, talk nothing but sport, and try to keep spirits high in a tough time.
Hamilton joins Toohey for the second episode of the Toohey's News podcast to discuss the highs and lows of his illustrious broadcasting career, his journey to become on of Australia's foremost mental health advocates, and offer his advice on how to get through winter facing the prospect of less sport to watch and listen to.
Hamilton was born and raised in the Hunter Valley town of Singleton and spent 16 years working as an underground coal miner in the Newcastle area before embarking on a radio career full-time in 1999.
Episode three will publish on Thursday.
