Luke Mundy, 43, appeared in Toronto Local Court on Monday charged with affray, armed with intent to commit indictable offence, assaulting police and resisting arrest.
He did not enter any pleas and was granted bail on the condition that he live at an address at Mirrabooka and not consume drugs or alcohol.
The matter was adjourned until May.
Police allege Mr Mundy attempted to gain entry to a neighbouring property on Mooranga Road, Mirrabooka, about 8.40pm on Sunday and began yelling at the owner.
Lake Macquarie police say they arrived to find Mr Mundy in the front yard of the property, when he allegedly pointed a loaded speargun towards police.
After a short struggle, he was arrested and police seized the speargun.
He was charged and initially refused bail by police before being granted conditional bail by Magistrate Sharron Crews in Toronto Local Court.
