The four are in their early to mid-20s and can't believe their fabulous luck.
It came after a few dead ends.
"We were looking for a little while; it was a really busy time. We went through quite a few depressing houses in the process," tenant Gab Abell says.
"I came into this one and inspected it. As soon as I came in I was like 'it's got such good energy'."
She knew they needed to have it. They were approved and moved in at the end of January. The three-bedroom brick house was built in 1901. They believe it was renovated by previous owners in 2015. The owners at the time extended the kitchen and lounge room, elongating the house.
With hardwood floors, natural light, healthy plants, big windows and white walls, the house encourages relaxation. On a Sunday morning you might hear soft music playing throughout the downstairs area, which blends well with the soft fragrances of essential oil, fresh flowers and brewing tea.
The house definitely has good energy and great ventilation.
Gab is a naturopathy student at the University of Newcastle and has a herbal skincare line, Studium Essentials. She sells her products with a group of other women at Makers Space Store and Studio in Newcastle West.
Gab lives here with her partner Cade Lane, a renewable energy engineer. Her brother, Louis Abell, is a musician and also works in music production. His partner is Sophia Cresswell. She's a PA for caravan hire company Camplify, and has a florist business called @flowersbysophiajean.
They may be young, but the four stay busy.
Despite their accommodating dining room, they've rarely all sat down together to have a meal.
The long kitchen gives them plenty of space to share cooking needs.
"This is probably the most calm it's been. This is the first time we've all sat down together for a while, it's good," Louis says during the interview with Weekender.
Some might find it challenging living with their sibling, but Gab and Louis get along fine.
"She has the same mindset as me; I trust her judgement. We don't really have time to fight," Louis says.
The two grew up in Hamilton and their parents live around the corner. This is Gab's first time living away from home.
"When we moved in together, we wanted the space to be a nice balance of being minimal but not being sterile. We wanted it to be welcoming and affordable," Gab says.
Every piece of the furniture is secondhand, bought from Facebook Marketplace. They have a few pieces of art on display by local artists.
Sophia met Louis after she saw him playing in a market one day. She's originally from Kiama and moved to Newcastle a couple years ago. This is the 19th house she's lived in and it's her favourite.
"You come in here and it feels like home. It's calming; it smells good. Your room-mates are fun and good people. We all love to cook," she says. "Not having clutter is really important. Open spaces and clean walls, it makes all the difference."
The outside of their house is as lovely as the inside, with a grassy garden and landscaped private driveway. They have plans to get an outdoor table for alfresco dining.
"We haven't found anything on the side of the road yet," Louis jokes.
Another special part of their household is the back shed, which is highly functional and comes with an extra toilet. The shed is slowly becoming their collective office, with Louis' guitars, Gab's herbal skincare ingredients and Sophia's flowers.
All the flowers in the house are Sophia's design.
"I do love dried flowers, but I think fresh flowers are really important so people can go through the journey of drying them out themselves," she says.
Despite being close to Beaumont Street, the home is quiet. But they know they're very much near the action.
"We get the smells of Beaumont Street, like kebabs," Louis says.
From scents to sounds, it sure is a sensory space, brimming with youthful energy.
