The Leanne Grimwood-trained bitch was third last start at the distance behind Sweet Fire All to break a four-race winning streak.
She bounced to the lead from box six on Friday night before Hello Mavis pushed ahead by a length down the back straight. However, Princess Zesta railed well at the final turn to take over before holding out Sweet Fire All by a half length.
National Futurity champion Zipping Veyron returned to the winners' podium with a dominant victory in the 400m 3rd/4th grade event as part of a treble for Richmond Vale trainer Jason Mackay.
Zipping Veyron had won seven in a row before a last-start third on April 4 at The Gardens but she led throughout from box one on her return, winning by 7.5 lengths in 22.65. She went to 16 wins in 22 starts.
Aston Tatum overcame a slow start and early check from box seven to win her 5th grade 515m race by three quarters of a length in 30.04. It was her ninth in 13 starts.
Aston Sapporo gave Mackay a third winner, showing strength early to hold the lead from box six before claiming his 272m FFA by 3.25 lengths in 15.5. It was his 15th victory in 25 starts.
Also on the night, Fire On Ice, for Doyalson North trainer Mark Moroney, put in a career-best time of 29.27 to win the 515m FFA.
Breaking a streak of three placings, Fire On Ice jumped straight to the lead from box four and was never threatened, finishing 0.11 of a second outside the track record.
Racing returns to The Gardens on Saturday.
