Sydney media on Tuesday reported the superstar fullback, 22, was ready to commit to a deal that could be worth up to $1.1 million a season to stay in the NRL and seek a title in the Hunter.
The Sydney Morning Herald reports the exact length of the deal remains in the works but could keep Ponga at McDonald Jones Stadium until 2025.
Speculation has swirled for months that the Queensland Origin back could quit rugby league at the conclusion of his existing deal to seek a berth with the All Blacks given his past in the 15-man game.
