Sydney is one of three guided missile destroyers - the others being the Hobart and Brisbane, which was unveiled in 2018 - to be built for the Australian Navy.
The keel of Sydney was symbolically laid down on on in November 2015, on the anniversary of HMAS Sydney (II)'s sinking in November 1941.
The ship was launched in May 2018 by Judy Shalders, the wife of former Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral Russ Shalders in Osborne, South Australia.
Sydney was constructed in Australia by the Air Warfare Destroyer Alliance. The cost of all three destroyers in the Hobart class came to $9 billion.
Sydney is expected to depart the harbour on June 8, around 3pm.
