As a coastal dweller, the possibilities of coming across silo art is remote. That's why articles like this one in the Bendigo Advertiser get the wheels whirring and prompt thoughts of road trips.
The plans, well, sometimes they come to reality, but more than likely some of us have to be content with secondhand visits.
And most recently, thanks to the Addy, I've learnt a little about life in Colbinabbin. That's where artist Tim Bowtell has been plying his artistic trade.
Reporter Chris Pedler caught up with Tim before the now-complete project, which took 10 weeks, was finished.
Deciding on the artworks, Tim said, was a real collaboration. The silo art project was funded by a government campaign last year.
"(The theme) is totally lead by the community. The committee put it out to the town to ask what they wanted on there. Then it was narrowed to the most popular and appropriate things. It was definitely a big a collaboration," he explained.
There's also a popular Silo Art Trail in the Wimmera Mallee.
The most recent addition to the trail came in October last year when two Brisbane-based artists, Travis Vinson and Joel Fergie, transformed the GrainCorp silos in the southern Mallee town of Sea Lake into pieces of art.
And with more art planned - for Bendigo's old Telstra Exchange along with St Arnaud, Wedderburn, Picola and Fitzroy - now's the time to plan that road trip, for real.
