Merewether and Newcastle fire crews were called to a unit fire in Hamilton South on Saturday. On arrival, firefighters discovered a fire caused by cooking. Crews ensured the fire was out and ventilated the unit using positive pressure fans. On Saturday, crews from Tingira Heights attended a similar event at a home in Windale. Once again, firefighters extinguished the fire before ventilating the building. In both instances, it was great to see that a working smoke alarm was fitted and functioned correctly to alert both the occupants and nearby residents of the danger.

The technical rescue crew from Lambton responded alongside firefighters from Holmesville to an animal rescue on Friday. Firefighters attended a property in Elermore Vale where Dandy, a 30-year-old horse, had fallen in a stall. With the assistance of a veterinarian, the crew utilised their large animal rescue equipment to secure and then move Dandy to an open paddock. From here, he was able to be better assessed while resting. He eventually was back on his feet. The operation took about two hours and required considerable manpower to move the 450 kilogram horse safely.
