Gibbons rode Kris Lees-trained $1.70 favourite Jaja Chaboogie to victory in the 1200-metre maiden plate, taking his season tally in NSW to 117 winners.
With two and a half weeks remaining in the season, Gibbons is just 5.5 wins behind NSW premiership leader Blaike McDougall, who is suspended for the rest of the campaign. Top Sydney jockey James McDonald is next best on 110.5.
Denby, meanwhile, continued her successful combination with Atkins.
The former Kiwi, now based in Newcastle, steered Areya Tuchuzy and Excelsa to victory for the Broadmeadow trainer.
Excelsa made it three wins in a row, scoring narrowly under strong riding from Denby to take out the 1600m benchmark 58 handicap. Areya Tuchuzy won the 1000m maiden handicap at his second start.
