ANYONE who attended the Don Waring Oval in Nelson Bay on July 19 is urged to be on the lookout for symptoms of COVID-19.
Hunter New England Health has confirmed a previously confirmed COVID-19 case - a child under 10 - played in the home team Nelson Bay Blue Marlins under 9's match against the Newcastle City Sky Blues on July 19.
The child was on the grounds of the oval between 8.15am and 10am.
The child's team mates are considered close contacts and are being notified. They will be required to isolate for 14 days.
The opposing team, and others present at the oval are asked to be on the lookout for COVID-19 symptoms and get tested immediately should any respiratory symptoms or fever occur.
FROM EARLIER:
NEW cases of coronavirus that closed Port Stephens schools and a daycare centre have been linked to the Thai Rock restaurant in Sydney.
NSW Health confirmed one of the cases is a child who attended Tomaree Public School. The school, and the co-located Tomaree High, is closed today while contact tracing and cleaning is underway.
Another case associated with the Thai Rock cluster is a one-year-old child who attends Goodstart Early Learning Anna Bay. The centre will be closed today while contact tracing and cleaning is underway.
A Port Stephens man in his 30s has also tested positive for COVID-19. All three new cases are close contacts of the previous case, a man in his 60s.
Hunter New England Health public health physician Dr David Durrheim said all close contacts of the cases would be notified and required to isolate for 14 days.
Hunter New England Local Health District is urging anyone who visited the following locations to watch for COVID-19 symptoms and get tested immediately should any respiratory symptoms or fever occur:
- Salamander Bay Square Woolworths on July 17 between 2.30pm to closing time, July 18 between 4pm to closing time, July 19 between 12.45pm to closing time, and July 20 between 3pm to closing time.
- The Fingal Bay Café and Takeaway on July 17 between 11.30am - 12 midday.
"Hunter New England Health is still working to identify any further contacts or venues visited by the new cases," Dr Durrheim said.
"Further updates will be provided as soon as this information is available."
NSW Health confirmed the Woolworths store had been deep cleaned overnight with extra attention to touch points.
The café had also been thoroughly cleaned and there was "no ongoing risk" to the community at this venue.
A new three-lane drive through clinic will open at Tomaree Sports Complex, 20 Aquatic Close, Nelson Bay, this afternoon and will then operate 8am-4pm seven days - however hours will be extended as required to meet demand.
Health Minister Brad Hazzard thanked the residents of Port Stephens for coming forward for testing.
"They responded extremely well," he said.
"Yesterday we had more than 800 people come through to be tested.
"What we do know though is that the cases in Port Stephens were part of the same cluster that involves the Thai Rock restaurant," Mr Hazzard said.
"What worries us most is transmissions where we don't know the source."
In NSW, there were 19 new cases of COVID-19 diagnosed in the 24 hours to 8pm last night bringing the total number of cases in the state to 3444.
There have now been 46 cases associated with the Thai Rock restaurant cluster.
