This cracking picture shows a Fire and Rescue NSW crew saving a horse from a dam at Matcham on the Central Coast.
The poor horse was caught under a fence, laying on her side in water.
"In an intricate rescue operation that involved the Technical Rescue Crew, firefighters managed to rescue the horse from the dam in just over two hours," a Fire and Rescue NSW statement said.
"Four trucks attended the incident with more than 10 firefighters and a number of local residents assisting with the rescue."
The female horse, named "Naaman Flaunt It", was in good health after the rescue, which happened at about 11.30am on Tuesday.
She was left in the care of her relieved owners and a vet.
The crew got the job done well. There was no horsing around. [We'll be here all week, folks]
The Cat's Pyjamas
Elermore Vale's Tony and Elaine Davis once looked after a farm outside Bathurst that their daughter and her husband owned.
"They asked us to mind their farm while they had a much-needed holiday. We did so and had a very pleasant time," Tony said.
"We then became recognised 'farm sitters' in that area and others."
One of these farms was at O'Connell.
"The farmers were both known by our daughter. They had a very interesting farm, one cat, several dogs, chooks to be let out in the daylight and locked up at night and some cattle.
"We were visiting daughter Melissa about a week before the farmers were due to go. We dropped out there to O'Connell to get final instructions."
The instructions involved a cat.
"The lady of the house Cherri gave my wife Elaine her 'cat instructions'."
Cherri: "She may come inside in the daytime but at night we put her in the shed and lock the door, so she doesn't interfere with the wildlife here. You have had cats at your house, haven't you?"
Elaine: "Of course. We have had many cats over the years."
Cherri: "Then let me show you the cat. She is a very big cat. She doesn't want to go into the shed at night, so I carry her. Come into the next room and I'll demonstrate."
They all stepped into the lounge room.
"There lying on the carpet was the biggest cat we had ever seen - a huge white and ginger part-Persian cat," Tony said.
Cherri reached down, took the cat and - with one movement - flung it onto her shoulder. She advised Elaine to "bend your knees as you do this".
Cherri carried the cat into the shed and put her down gently in her bed, said goodnight and closed and locked the door.
Thankfully, Tony and Elaine had no trouble with the cat during their stay, which they enjoyed. Their time on the farm was, shall we say, the cat's pyjamas. [All week, folks. All week]
