Dance helps a young toddler create those all-important brain connections and muscle memory to perform those tasks over and over.
Dance is more that just turns and pointed toes.
Music, singing and movement are part of our everyday lives, whether it's when we sing in the car with our little ones or play music to dance around the lounge room we watch our tiny tots makes important connections to control their arms and legs.
"I remember seeing that lightbulb moment when my first child realised their hand was connected to their body and working hard to tug on their dangly toys to when they could clap along to music," recalls Vicki Brown, co-owner and direction of National College of Dance.
"The sounds, jingles, repetitive songs and bopping up and down to the beat - all rewards for a job well done, and these help a young toddler create those all-important brain connections and muscle memory to perform those tasks over and over.
And don't our little toddlers love repetition.
"The look on their happy face is priceless," says Vicki.
Dance and Movement classes help interlink all these important elements for a child. In class they listen to familiar tunes and have little friends to copy and move with.
"Using their voices to sing along in time with the music is a sensory pleasure that all children enjoy," Vicki said.
"And the reward for the child is feeling the movement in their body and singing along with a song all at the same time."
Dance uses different muscle in children than walking, running, pulling or crawling which helps a child improve balance and co-ordination, couple this with adding arm movement in time with music, mimicking, spatial awareness, listening and memory skills it's the perfect accompaniment to a growing mind and body.
