The council has commenced work at Fassifern train station to resurface the parking spaces and install a new covered bus shelter.
The project, jointly funded by the council and Transport for NSW, is expected to be completed by September.
The works will be staged to minimise the disruption to commuters and residents.

"While COVID-19 has seen less people commuting as they continue to work from home, transport is crucial to our future as a growing regional city and we want to make it as easy as possible for people to come here and move around the Hunter and beyond," Lake Macquarie mayor Kay Fraser said.
"Fassifern is a highly used station to access our transport network, so it is great that we can work together with Transport for NSW to improve the car park."
The car park is part-owned by the council, but the site is expected to be transferred to the state government in line with other stations.
