The four-year-old mare will contest the 1000-metre maiden when she returns from a year off from racing.

Formerly trained at Randwick by John Sargent, Crystal Falls raced in elite company as a two-year-old.

In her second start, she was runner-up to Kiamichi in the group 3 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill before finishing sixth, four lengths away, in the group 1 Sires' Produce (1400m) and Champagne Stakes (1600m) at Randwick.

She finished down the track in her only run since, at Canterbury in August last year. After two trials in January, owner Stuart Ramsey, John's father, brought Crystal Falls home to Scone. However, she suffered capped hocks, a bursitis, from lashing out while in transit.

She then had a three-month stint in the paddock before Ramsey returned her to work in May.

"We decided just to leave her here and just try and get a win under her belt and give her a bit of confidence hopefully," Ramsey said. "If she doesn't go on with it, we'll just put her in foal."

He said Crystal Falls had shown positive signs of producing first-up with Daniel Northey aboard from gate three on Tuesday.

"She's been going good," he said. "She's had a couple of jump outs and if she's as good as I think she is, and as good as they thought she was, then she should be winning. We'll see. It might be a touch short for her as well.

"I'm happy with how she's been working. Dan worked her on Friday morning and he was happy."

Crystal Falls, the 61kg topweight, was a $2.40 TAB Fixed Odds favourite ahead of the Cody Morgan-trained Rubic Honour ($2.60).
