A shared passion for health and wellbeing is at the heart of Newcastle's latest fitness project, which will be launched in September.
A joint project between Life Rebel Chiropractic's Dr Tim Shakespeare and personal trainer Michael Leao, Findaway Fitness Carrington, at 40 Elizabeth Street, will have its grand opening on September 5.
There was more than a touch of serendipity in the way the idea for the new gym was born.
Michael and Tim met at Life Rebel when Michael sought treatment for his injured neck.
Tim then approached Michael (also known as "Mr Findaway") for his personal training services.
"We shared the same passion for what we do, and philosophy for helping people," Tim said.
"We both want to help as many people as possible but in a way that is unique to us.
"We believe that there is no point being in a service industry if you have to change who you are to do it - living a life that is disingenuous is too stressful."
The gym will cater for a wide range of users and focus on changing bodies and mindsets.
"As long as you have a heartbeat and are willing to take control of and accountability for your health, we want you as a part of our fitness family," Tim said.
The new facility offers an alignment of services, which focuses on a similar vision and philosophy.
Life Rebel Chiropractic will provide support for Findaway Fitness Carrington members so that they can continue to train healthy and injury free as part of a sister-company arrangement.
There is a great deal of excitement about the new business and its opening, which is fast approaching.
Tim said he was pumped for the September 5 opening, which would feature music, guests from the elite sporting community and business, and special deals.
People will be welcome to sign up on the day, for $20 per week for the open gym section called 'The Yard', and unlimited classes memberships to the mezzanine section, known as 'The Control Room', for $60 per week.
Users can expect to feel an urban and street vibe within the space, which challenges the common assumptions of what a gym should look like.
"The gym is almost finished and is looking amazing! It is something unlike anything Novocastrians have ever seen before," Tim said.
"The energy in it is electric."
The gym features Hammer Strength equipment and dedicated training spaces which include a sled track, elliptical, boxing bags and more.
