The four-year-old made it four wins in as many starts, taking out the 1200m benchmark 78 handicap first-up on a heavy track. He was a $15 shot for the country-only $1.3 million Kosciuszko (1200m) in October.
The victory came as Cavanough's son, Jack, recovers from a head injury suffered in a trackwork fall on July 22.
"It's been a good day. We've had a few tough weeks, Jacko is 21 today, so ... well done mate," the trainer told Sky Thoroughbred Central.
A place in the Kosciuszko was on the radar for Fender.
"Today he was pretty special," Cavanough said.
"He had to put the shoulder to the wheel and push them out of the road.
"These horses are all auditioning for a spot and he can't do more than that."
Also at Rosehill, Wandabaa had a third recent city win for the Newcastle combination of trainer Kris Lees and apprentice Louise Day.
