Malloy netted twice to make it 2-all at Macquarie Ice Rink on Saturday but Cam Todd's second broke the deadlock to give the Ice Dogs a 2-0 series lead.
The 3-2 scoreline and overtime winner was a repeat from game one at Warners Bay last weekend.
Todd and Ice Dogs teammate Alec Stephenson produced goals across the opening two periods.
Riley Tonks debuted for the Northstars while goalkeeper James Downie now departs of the US for an upcoming training camp with the Maryland Black Bears.
The newly formed Hawkesbury Classic, which is being played between the two NSW clubs after the Australian Ice Hockey League season was cancelled last month, continues with game three this Saturday before returning to HISS on August 22.
