THE latest COVID-19 restrictions on community sport will not impact on the Shute Shield as the Hunter Wildfires are set to be beamed across Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific on Saturday.
The Wildfires' clash with Shute Shield leaders Gordon will be televised on 7Two, Sky Sports in New Zealand the Pacific and on the 7plus app.
"There will be a lot of eyeballs on the game and it will give exposure to the sponsors who have supported us this year," NHRU general manager Andy Fairfull said. "The greater public will also get to see the fantastic facilities up here."
NSW Health on Tuesday tightened restrictions on community sport and have recommended a stop to team travelling outside their region for games.
However, Sydney Rugby Union president Phil Parsons said the latest measures were aimed at youth competition and insisted that the Shute Shield had "strong COVID safety systems in place."
Fairful said the NHRU had the strictest protocols in the competition.
"We have capped it at 500 paying customers and they are allocated specific bays to watch the game from. Security guards enforce the social distancing in those bays. Club use two dressing rooms with a maximum of 15 people in each. Every safety measure has been employed."
