Lake Macquarie council announced on Thursday that the popular Watagan Track would be closed each night from 6pm to 5am between Ryan Street, Speers Point and Fairfax Road, Warners Bay.

The council is replacing a series of retaining walls alongside the track after making emergency repairs last year.

"Late last year, we completed emergency repair works to the retaining walls along this section of the track to give us more time to plan the replacement of these retaining walls," Lake Macquarie council asset manager Brendan Callander said.

"Council is committed to providing our community with the best infrastructure to enjoy the outdoors.

"These maintenance works will allow us to maintain a safe and viable walking track."

The works will be completed at night to minimise the disruption to the community.

The section of path where the works will be taking place will be able to be used outside of the nightly work hours.

Along with Fernleigh Track through east Lake Macquarie, the Watagan Track has been one of the city's most popular recreation spots throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. It is used by hundreds of people each day.

"The shared pathway between Speers Point and Warners Bay is popular with our community with many people walking or cycling the pathway to get their daily dose of exercise while taking in the beautiful lakeside views," Mr Callander said.

Meanwhile, the council is calling for feedback on a draft transport management plan for Charlestown.

Integrated planning manager Wes Hain said feedback was being sought on a range of proposed actions, including expanded transport choices, improved car parking and upgraded active transport infrastructure.

"Charlestown is one of our city's major economic, retail and residential centres," he said. "We would like to hear from the community on the draft recommendations.

"These recommendations relate to parking, pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, and public transport. The draft document is based on feedback from community consultation undertaken last year."
