Known as the Ray Richards Memorial Man on Man since 1991, the club competition has an event window covering this weekend and the next. Forecasts point to a strong chance for competition this Sunday.
For the first time, the contest will be streamed live on BarTV. The club is discouraging beachside spectators because of COVID-19 restrictions.
Nine past winners will compete this year, including four-time champion Mitchel Ross and two-time victors Jackson Baker, Luke Egan, Travis Lynch and Jesse Adam. Others in the top 16 include Matt Hoy, Craig Anderson, Jake Sylvester and Jackson Brent.
Luke Hamilton, Zephyr LeRougetel, Marc Adam, Rhys Smith and Philippa Anderson are the others.
The top 16 will meet surfers selected from results of this year's first two club rounds.
The club's first man on man event was held in 1980 and won by Daryl Tonks. It was later renamed in honour of club stalwart Ray Richards, the father of four-time world champion Mark Richards.
The event will be live on BarTV https://www.bartvsports.com.au/ with scores at Live Heats https://liveheats.com/
