Hazell was on target as the Magpies finished strongly to easily account for University 6-0 at Wyong on Sunday, recording a fourth straight minor premiership and fifth in the space of six seasons.
Gosford (20 points) now can't be headed on the competition ladder with two rounds remaining, five clear of nearest rivals Souths (15) who they meet twice this week.
"Great achievement, not just for the team but for the whole club," Magpies captain-coach Liam Alexander said.
"Considering where we were 10 years ago, finishing bottom of the ladder every year, to now being on top of the ladder consistently is a great reflection of the efforts from all members."
Mick Taylor and Lloyd Radcliffe also found the back of the net for Gosford.
University captain Murray Bennett, who scored a match-winning goal after full-time to break a three-year drought for the Seapigs on Thursday, said he was pleased to keep the Magpies to just one in the first half.
The Students (4) have now finished their regular season but could meet Gosford again in next month's semi-finals if they hang onto fourth spot over last-placed Wests (2).
The Rosellas, who had the bye this weekend, face third-placed Norths (11) in back-to-back encounters. In Sunday's other game Norths came from three goals down to earn a 3-all draw with Souths at Newcastle.
Seb Rollings (ankle) returned from a five-week injury lay-off with two goals for Souths while Ben Hanlan also scored in the first quarter.
Norths replied courtesy of a Rory Walker double and Mitchell Brown.
Regardless of upcoming results, rivals Norths and Souths will face off again in an elimination semi-final on October 11.
In the Newcastle District Women's Hockey Association premier league on Saturday and frontrunners Oxfords (Natalie Strawhorn 2, Ashley Ninness) beat Tigers 3-0, Gosford (Jamie Greenwood 2) came from behind to account for Regals (Ellie Baldwin) 2-1 and jump them into second spot while University went down 4-0 to Central (Ashley Tsakissiris 2, Emmay Hayes, Kasey Cocking), who are now in outright fourth position.
HCPHL LADDER: Gosford 20; Souths 15; Norths 11; University 4; Wests 2.
NDWHA LADDER: Oxfords 20; Gosford 19; Regals 17; Central 16; Tigers, Souths 14; University 8.
